At last able to buy the pudding version of steak and kidney. Can get the pie in OZ, love the suet and the meat, also the gravy, getting the large one next

This microwaveable pudding is simple to cook and ready to eat in just over 90 minutes. I found the filling tasty if a little too salty. The suet pastry outer covering didn't taste too good. It was dry and lacking in texture. I wonder if it is best to stick to the traditional way of steaming these puddings rather than using a microwave. I served the pie with mashed potatoes and peas. It was okay but I don't think I will repeat the purchase.

I still cook these the old fashioned way and was a little confused as the instructions don't include anything other than microwaving. After seeing online that they can be cooked by steaming, I found the flavour to be good, but not as good as they used to be but certainly a handy meal.

Mediocre at best. Very small, lots of not so good pastry and very little filling. A complete disappointment and not something I'd buy again.
Very easy to prepare and can fill in for a quick lunch, but really, not very nice to eat and certainly not satisfying or with much steak and kidney taste.

My husband is Dutch and the soft suet pastry found on Fray Bentos pies is something he isn't familiar with, or at least he wasn't familiar with, until we tried these. And he loved them! They were microwaved to perfection in 90 seconds and I served them with mash and veg. What a gorgeous meal! I heartily recommend these microwaveable pies.

Fray Bentos have speeded up the way you prepare their delicious treats. Within one and a half minutes it is possible to warm up this great snack.
I say snack, but if you add some vegetables and some mashed potatoes you have yourself a good dinner!
I prefer the larger pies over this pudding.

I thought I would give the Fray Bentos microwaveable Steak and Kidney Pudding a try. The suet pastry turned out well and the filling was moist and tasty only for me I preferred a bit more gravy.
I enjoyed it as a tasty change and very quick to cook in the microwave. I found it to be filling but then I served it with vegetables.

Fray Bentos Microwavable Steak & Kidney Pudding is great if you are in a hurry just Pop it in the micro 1.5 mins Job done.I don't know why John Steams his for 30 mins? Anyway the meat inside is very lean and tender and the crust is just as it should be.
The only problem is the size left me feeling ready for another.

Excellent quality. Plenty of tender meat without fat or gristle with bite size pieces in rich gravy. Great suet casing. Boil or steam for 30 minutes but remember to pierce lid to avoid a disaster. Small pudding is generous size for one person. Only drawback is number of calories for those on a diet - but worth it.
