A Trio Of Christmas Tipples
The clocks are about to go back and the Christmas season is almost upon us.
These three potent tipples will warm the cockles of any heart!
Tipple 1: Hippocras
A medieval spiced wine. Serves 4 people.
Ingredients from British Corner Shop
- A bottle of Black Tower Red Wine
- 1 heaped tablespoon of Gale's Blossom Clear Honey
- 1/2 a teaspoon of Bart Ground Ginger
- 1/2 a teaspoon of Bart Ground Cinnamon
- 1/4 of a teaspoon of Schwartz Ground Nutmeg
- 2 heaped tablespoons of Silver Spoon Dark Brown Soft Sugar
- 3 Bart Cloves
Method
Add all the ingredients into a heavy based saucepan.
Heat gently until warm - do not let it boil!
Serve in 4 glasses garnished with a little orange peel, if desired.
Tipple 2: Warming Wassail
Wassail was an Anglo-Saxon cheer of thanks - and you'll be very thankful when presented with a festive glass of this Christmas cheer!
Serves 2 generously.
Ingredients from British Corner Shop
- A can of Thatcher's Gold Cider
- 1/4 of a teaspoon of Schwartz Star Anise Ground
- 1 teaspoon of Nielsen-Massey Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/4 of a teaspoon of Schwartz Ground Nutmeg
- 2 heaped tablespoons of Silver Spoon Dark Brown Soft Sugar
- 100ml of Princes Apple Juice
Method
Slowly warm all the ingredients together - do not boil!
Serve with a slice of apple, if desired.
Tipple 3: English Toddy
This toddy made the English way is tea based and what could improve a nice cuppa? Whisky of course!
Serves 2 people.
Ingredients from British Corner Shop
- 100ml of Bell's Old Scotch Whisky
- 2 Bart Cloves
- 2 tablespoons of Gale's Blossom Clear Honey
- 2 Bart Cinnamon Sticks
- 2 Darvilles of Windsor English Breakfast Tea Bags steeped in 400ml of boiling water
Method
Divide the whisky, honey and cloves between 2 heatproof glasses.
Top the glasses up with the tea and serve with a cinnamon stick in each to stir.
