Product reviews
This is an absolute 'must' for my pantry and table as my husband uses it at least 3 times each week with various meals even if they don't include lamb.
He's Dutch so wasn't brought up with knowing which sauces were to be used for which meats and just loves the taste of mint jelly with almost everything! I can't wean him off so decided to buy at least 5 pots with my recent order.
We've tried various other brands over the years but always come back to Baxters.
I grew up eating mint jelly and mint sauce in the UK. You cannot get true mint jelly in the US. Theirs is apple based and artificial. I stock up when I place my order. I love this mint jelly. It is sweet and minty but not overpowering. Not a lot of lamb is eaten here, mainly pork. That is what I use it on. It goes wonderfully with pork. I have actually managed to turn my friends on to it. I just gave my last jar of Baxters Mint jelly to my friend.
This is the first time I tried a jelly instead of the regular mint sauce and I just love it! It gives a great minty touch to lamb, but does not overpower it like most vinegar based mint sauce does. Very delicate authentic taste and has proved to be very popular in my family.
Baxters Mint Jelly has a lovely fresh mint flavour, but the fact that it's a jelly and not a sauce means that it doesn't really go a long way. In the jars of dense mint sauce there is so much mint that it's possible to dilute a spoonful of it and it goes a long way. This gelatine melts over hot food, and more or less disappears. It tastes nice, although I prefer the sauce.
