The much-loved mince pie represents one of the oldest festive culinary traditions of Great Britain. For many a Brit, Christmas simply wouldn't be complete without the presence of these mouth-watering treats!
The origins of mince pies are believed to date back to the 13th century, with early incarnations being larger in size and made using a recipe featuring shredded meat, suet and fruit.
The modern version we know and love is of course more compact and sweet, comprising delicious fruity mincemeat encased in a yummy pastry. These seasonal treats are particularly good when served warm, ideally alongside a glass of mulled wine!
