My wife is British and it's very hard to find clotted cream in the southern rural region of the United States. It arrived in a glass jar and was nice and creamy. We made scones from a scones mix and used the cream with strawberry jam. My wife was scraping the jar. I should have bought three jars. Lol
I bought this because the other clotted creams available were 'fresh' products and on this occasion I needed one that had keeping qualities longlife product. The description said that it was thick and creamy, which it certainly was so thick in fact as to be almost solid, and its very predominant flavour was of longlife milk and no amount of strawberry jam could hide that!.So, fine at a push in an emergency, but I would advise using fresh clotted cream if at all possible.
As we are unable to find clotted cream in Belgium, I ordered Paul Hollywood scone mix and cottage clotted cream and all the family was enchanted, so we have reordered.
After having Afternoon Tea in London several times I was looking forward to having scones and clotted cream at home. I was aware that this would not be the same, so my expectations were not very high. However this was disappointing! It was very far away from what I have got in London. It was tasteless, a bit sweet in the beginning and a harsh aftertaste! Use some heavily whipped cream instead on the scones etc. However, My mother, who had not tried it in London, liked it.
Well in Italy, milk is used for parmesan and grana and what is sold after has a distant remenbrance of milk and cream. So when I need to offer to my guests something serious, with taste and flavour of a cow milk this product helps very well. Its wonderfull with jam and marmalade at breakfast or at tea and with some cake like Pan di Spagna or other sponge cake. I advise not to chill but to leave closed.
This is a great product to go with scones. Living in Sweden means that it is very hard to get this and it certainly is worth buying if you want that clotted cream feeling for an afternoon tea.
Scones and clotted cream are favourite with my family.Everyone was really pleased with this clotted cream and it has nice taste and texture. It did go well as a long life clotted cream, and we will buy again.I would recommend it.Of course fresh is best-but this does the job and I think its good.
I am from the West of England home of Clotted Cream. This product is heated to a very high temperature to give it a long shelf life and as a result it does not have the taste, texture or colour of clotted cream and it is slimy to the palate with an unpleasant after taste.Absolutely not the authentic clotted cream experience.
