The most recognised of all tinned pie makers, Fray Bentos have been making pies since 1899. The Fray Bentos Steak and Ale Pie is a bona fide British classic, combining mouth-watering meat with boozy ale.
Made with tender pieces of steak, delicious real ale gravy, and topped off with Fray Bentos’ signature puff pastry, this pie is ideal for warming yourself up on a cold winter night.
Fray Bentos pies are perfect for those shopping on a budget or lacking the time to make their own pies. They take about 30 minutes to cook and can feed four people, and can also be shipped to Australia.

I can not believe people would give this Fray Bentos steak and ale pie less than five stars. It is the ultimate comfort food, it is so rich in sauce, meat and flavours! If it was cheaper, I would have one every week. It cooks perfectly in the oven and creates a real crusty and golden topping that is to die for.
I love pies. Sadly I live in China and I can't find pies here nor can I find ingredients to make pastry. I live in a large town/small city that only has about 5 foreigners, so expats are not catered for. All restaurants here are generic serving the same Chinese food. Luckily I discovered britishcornershop.com and was over the moon to see they could deliver Fray Bentos Steak and Ale pies to China. These are excellent pies and fill a very empty hole.
This pie is awesome. Served mine with mashed potatoes and carrots. I cut the pie in half with the plan being to eat for dinner later on in the week. I was still thinking about how much I had enjoyed it the following morning, I decided to have the other half for breakfast. I have never eaten meat pie for breakfast before, it was very good even if it was unconventional. I highly recommend this pie, it tastes like home made without the effort.
I was looking forwards to my tea yesterday, thinking of the steak and ale pie bought online, I put it in the oven and waited for half an hour, it looked gorgeous (I even posted a photo on Facebook) , but then I tasted it! I was very disappointed, the pastry was nice but the filling was very poor because the meat pieces were so small that I tasted only gravy. I didn't like it at all.
A great meal for two people. Very convenient as you take the lid off, pop it in the oven, and half an hour later you have a tasty pie. The quality of the meat is good and the ale gravy is abundant but the best part is the pastry topping which is crispy on the top and rises nicely. I had this for the first time and would order it again.
Fray Bentos Steak & Ale pie is a delicious combination of Flaky pastry, mouth watering tender pieces of Steak and a wonderful real ale gravy.
I like it served with fresh Brussel Sprouts and mashed potatoes, or served for two at lunch with good crusty bread to soak up the gravy.
This pie from Fray Bentos is simply great. The quality of the Steak is apparent in the very first bite.
The pastry rises effortlessly when cooked and in no time at all you can enjoy a great tasting pie.
This pie is not suitable for a family of four. I think it can feed 2 or 3 at a push.
Steak and Ale is our favourite pie from Fray Bentos; the gravy is rich, the pastry golden and crispy and rarely any fat to be found on the chunks of meat. We enjoy it best served with a side of battered onion rings and a slice of bread and butter to dip in the gravy... It's true however that this is best served for 2 people, we generally eat 2 pies between the 3 of us. Great for a no-fuss dinner in 30 minutes and still cheaper than a takeaway!
Disappointing. Even though the others aren't that great, this pie is better to be left alone in my opinion.
Even though the crust is awsome as usual, the meat and gravy inside really let me down. As for being a meal for 4 people, they must mean infants, as I'd easily plow thru this size by myself.
