First came across this when i was a child in Germany, I'm an Army Brat where some of the locals put a few drops on their hard boiled eggs, or sprinkled some into their pea soup. To this day, my mum calls it ''soup enhancer'', and a bottle was put on the table when soup was being served, long after we'd moved back to England. Properly chuffed to find it on sale here. Highly recommend it. Excellent flavour, and superb for seasoning.

I was gifted a bottle of this from my daughters father-in-law and at the time I doubted I would ever use it, I put in in the pantry and forgot it was there. As fate would have it I was reaching for something else when it literately fell out of the pantry. I read the label and put a little on my finger, it was okay so I put it in my shepherd's pie, it was really tasty. Since then I have bought a couple of bottles, I use it in most of my sauces and gravies. It is a great flavour enhancer.

For those of you who do not know this wonderful seasoning ingredient I beg you to try it. I first encountered it at a very young age in France where they would put it on the table as a general purpose condiment and the locals would sprinkle it on their bread and eat it before their food arrived to fill themselves up.

Since I have been a cook I have panicked if I don't have at least one full bottle in reserve in the store cupboard. It is just so versatile and will completely replace the salt that you use in soups, gravies, sauces, casseroles and stews while adding a depth of flavour that is difficult to describe. If you don't know the product the taste is a cross between a soy sauce and a beef stock and Worcestershire sauce but so little is needed that it does not discolour even a white sauce.

OK, it has MSG (monosodiumglutamate) but in tiny amounts and it is not, as far as I know, harmful. Really, this is as important to me as mustard. Please try it.
