I have ordered this product several times and have never been disappointed. The pieces of ginger are tender and the syrup very smooth. I use it often in desserts and add it to sweet and sour sauces. Once the ginger is used up, the remaining syrup can be used to flavour sauces, sweeten drinks. Nothing is wasted, I have used it in recipes which called for a honey and spice marinade. I used the ginger syrup to replace the honey.
Oh, what tasty chunks are found in this jar of stem ginger by Waitrose. Difficult it to just eat a chunk every time you pass by the jar. These chunks are very flavourful, tender and refreshing, adding them to many different dishes heightens the flavour, and turns bland into very tasty. The syrup is also very useful, it can enhance a cup of herbal tea into something special. Added to your porridge oats instead of sugar, gives it a whole new flavour.
This was definitely a good buy and I will get it again. I added it to lemon and honey and left it to mix together in order to prepare a refreshing hot drink and made a delicious banana cake with a hint of ginger. The syrup was also great to brush over a plain sponge cake just to add a little something extra.
Well, the jar says 'plump and spicy', and that's exactly what they are! Marvellously fresh and cleantasting little perfect balls of stem ginger in a delicious unctious syrup that can be uses as a source or base for one in its own right. I used this to augment a commerciallybought brand as per a Rowley Leigh recipe and found that it worked a treat its flavour coming through refreshingly clearly but without overpowering the other ingredients.Once opened, it keeps beatifully in the fridge for a long time, but don't be surprised if you find yourself inventing reasons to use this in other dishes, as it it so very moreish!
