This product from 'Tan Y Castell' bakery contains a total of 6 'Welsh' cakes. 'Welsh' cakes are soft cakes with dried fruit, which are typically warmed up on a griddle pan, laced with butter, decorated with castor or icing sugar, and served on their own, or with jam. These 'Welsh' cakes contain currants and sultanas. While they can be served at room temperature, they are best had the 'traditional' way. The cakes are not overly sweet. The flavour of currants and sultanas is noticeable, but the 'cake' itself is the main component. They are light, fluffy, and delicious when had 'straight out of' the griddle pan. They are moreish with a sprinkling of icing sugar, and with 'raspberry' jam served 'on the side'. Overall, this product is well worth the purchase.

I am in the US, and we don't have Welsh cakes here. So, I ordered these out of curiosity. They are lovely, but very expensive, especially when you add in the shipping to the US. So, I will look for recipes, because they look to be fairly simple to bake for myself.

Now let me first say I should NOT eat gluten. Ask my family and friends and they will tell you when I do indulge in some baked gluten goods I have farts that could clear out several counties. It is truly foul. But these Tan Y Castell Welsh Cakes are my one gluten product I cannot resist! They are the perfect texture and not overtly sweet. I love them microwaved for just about 30 seconds with some butter. I have to make sure I eat these bad boys alone as my gluten intolerance WILL MAKE ITSELF KNOWN! But its all worth it to me. Some of the joys of life are worth a little gass and solitude.

Welsh cakes are one of my all-time favorites. It's been more than 30 years since I've had one and I was so excited to see these available on the website. I have to say that I was a bit reluctant to order them as I imagined they would be all dried out and perhaps a bit nasty. Boy was I wrong!! These cakes are every bit what I remember and love about Welsh cakes. They are soft and wonderful warmed with butter on top. I am simply going to have to order way more this next time. These cakes are simply wonderful!!

My new favorite treat! I cannot believe how flavorful and decedent these simple little guys are. I prefer these over scones. Heated with a little butter or ghee is the way to enjoy these amazing griddle cakes. I've put them in toaster ovens as well as regular toaster both work well as long as you use a wooden tong to remove. I have not heated them in a skillet yet but may have to try it. I cannot get these locally and BCS offers the best deal by far. I order a few packs at a time and pop them in my freezer until ready to use.

Tan Y Castell are my favorite brand of Welsh Cakes. These have plump juicy raisins, quality ingredients and griddle bake marks that will fool your friends into thinking you made them yourself. They come wrapped in packaging that keeps them fresher than most other Welsh Cakes or scones and they pack well for shipping but of course, BCS shipping clerks are the best in the business you won't ever find them crumbled to bits. I put a little butter on them and warm them in the microwave for 15 seconds.

The Welsh equivalent to scones, Welsh cakes are a tasty tea time treat that I have enjoyed for years and are one of the things I look forward to when visiting Wales. I suggest you warm these slightly to recreate the feeling of them having just left the griddle. Can be enjoyed alone or slathered with cream, jam and butter. I'm getting watery mouthed writing this !!

I had never tried Welsh cakes before I bought these, and have already bought more. They are not too sweet, most of the sweetness comes from the raisins. Lovely with a cup of tea. I suppose a Welsh housewife could bake even better and fresher, of course Welsh cakes, but in lack of a Welsh housewife, I will settle for Tan Y Castell.

Welsh Cakes are my husband's favourite. I try to make them most of the time from scratch, but having these on hand for cravings is fabulous. We keep them in the freezer and defrost one or two. My husband put them in the toaster for less than a minute to warm them through as that is how he prefers them.
