I don't think most people in New Zealand would know what a Bakewell tart tastes like unless it was homemade. They're really missing out. These gluten free tarts are a real sweet treat. I would normally have them as they come out of the box but decided to heat one a little, as suggested in other reviews. Just 15 seconds in the microwave should do it I did 20 seconds and it was a little too long. It softens the icing and pastry just enough and brings out the almond and cherry flavours. Great with a cuppa!

I was delighted when I saw that BCS sold these tarts! I ordered over 10 packs of them and am going to freeze them so I can enjoy them for a while. I had them when I was visiting the UK this Fall and was so surprised that they do not taste like GF at all. I am in Canada and we have nothing like them here. The pastry and the icing are absolutely delicious. I will definitely be ordering more of these in the coming months.

It is not often that I would opt for gluten free food as I have no medical issue with it but I was intrigued as those bakewell tarts look the real deal. They also taste very authentic and close to the original while being somehow lighter and easier to digest. A bit pricey but very tasty.

I was thrilled when I saw that these Bakewell tarts were gluten free, as they were always a favorite of mine when I was young. Like in previous reviews, if you bite into them getting some of the pastry, filling icing, they are delicious. Plus I always thought the icing was marzipan? I'm not sure how many I have eaten before since Christmas, but I have loved each everyone. They are so good, that I just had to place a second order, as my husband I just didn't get enough of them Christmas day. My husband did say they are really sweet for him, but I have a sweet tooth can easily eat more than one at a time. Plus I always eat around the cherry, the cherry being the last bite. For sure I get quite messy in doing this, but that's how I have always eaten them. We all have our own way I guess. Thanks to Waitrose, those of us that have to eat Gluten free are so appreciative to all these companies that are starting to accommodate us more more. Personally, I can't tell between the ones that have gluten in them those that don't, that's how good they are. My husband, son in laws, grandchildren, all whom don't need to worry about eating gluten, enjoyed them just as much as my daughters I did. If you don't tell anyone they are gluten free, they don't even realize. It's been a long road, as it use to be the moment you said anything was gluten free, no one was interested in even trying them, as gluten free use to mean, hard dry pastry, nasty tasting filling, it didn't matter how pretty they looked on a plate, no one would touch them. I'm pleased to say that these didn't last long from the moment they went on the table. I will definitely order more next Christmas if I was able to afford it, I would order these all year round, but being gluten free, the prices are always higher. It's just the way it is. Bakewell tarts, have now become another tradition we can look forward to each every year from now on, which makes Christmas even more special.

We loved these, and it was hard to tell that they were GF. I warmed them up a little in the oven before served them, which made the thick white icing blend better with the filling. The pastry was little more crumbly than the normal, but that is what usually happens with most of the GF stuff due to the lack of binding gluten. The only negative thing I can say about this product is nobody in our family cared for the half a cherry on the top :As a family with 4 Celiac sufferers, I am sure we shall be getting these in the future again!

It's great that gluten intolerance is beginning to be catered for really well, with a good range of cakes and desserts available for those who have this problem. I agree with the previous review, the pastry was a little dry but the overall cake was not too bad at all. A big setback in gluten free cakes is the price, almost double the usual, but the pros beat the cons!

These bakewell tarts were average in my families' eyes. The pastry was a little on the dry side, but if you eat it all together i.e the filling and pastry at the same time they don't taste too bad. They have a lovely thick coating of white icing on the top which is sweet and delicious. A good alternative for anyone suffering from an allergy to gluten.
