I have been a fan of Starburst Fruit Chews since back in the day when they were called Opal Fruits. I was very happy to find out the British version sold here contain no gelatin and are suitable for vegetarians. The ones made in the USA do contain gelatin and a host of other undesirable ingredients. I will continue to purchase these again and again.
I was so glad to find this product here. In the States, they have a similarly branded product that contains loads of artificial additives. The American brand contains: sugar, hydrogenated palm kernel andor palm oil, fruit juice from concentrate apple, lemon, strawberry, orange, and cherry, less than two percent: citric acid, tapioca, dextrin, gelatin, modified food starch, natural and artifical flavors, ascorbic acid vitamin C, and coloring red 40, yellow 5, yellow 6, and blue 1. I have never understood the vast difference in the American vs the British candy recipes. There doesn't seem to be that much actual difference in pricing. Opal Fruits came to the States in 1967 and changed its name to Starburst I wish they would adopt the British recipe too. But at least now I have a source for a higher quality product at www.britishcornershop.co.uk .
