I have waited many years to taste a Jelly Baby, after watching Tom Baker, as Dr Who, pull them out of his pockets. We don't have them in the US and I always forgot to try them while in England. As soon as I discovered British Corner Shop, I ordered several brands. What a revelation they are! The Waitrose are my favorites, by far. They are soft and lovely, with unique fruit flavors.
I recollect jelly babies being a childhood favorite of mine. The nostalgia is real the delicate interior with a firm exterior and scrumptious fruity flavors. They are comparable to the Bassetts brand in my opinion and a cheaper alternative. My kids are going to go through these fast. I just wish I had ordered more!
The next best thing to the best thing, so that would make these second best. Which is pretty good in my opinion. Bassetts Jelly Babies are the king, we all know this, but these Waitrose Jelly Babies are making a case for the top spot. They share the same consistency and texture as the Bassetts brand, and the flavours are good. If you're looking for a slightly cheaper alternative to the OG Jelly Babies you'll be perfectly content.
I wasn't sure how these jelly babies would compare to the brand name jellies that I used to love but these are even better than I expected. I just received my first shipment, which included 4 packages of these jelly babies and we have devoured them already. I intend getting more of them with my next order.
Ah, good old English Jelly Babies. I purchased these as although not advertised as such, they just happen to be gluten-free. It's very difficult to get gluten free Jelly Babies in New Zealand so I was thrilled to be able to order these wonderfully full of flavour sweets, with just the right consistency.
I purchase Jelly Babies for nostalgic reasons but expected to be disappointed as I have been in recent years by the lack of flavor and the sense that they just weren't what I remembered. These Waitrose Jelly Babies were an unexpected delight. All the colors have distinct fruity flavors and the texture is a just right combination of firm outside and soft inside. These aren't the candy I remember they are even better! I just wish I had bought more than one packet.
