Birds custard takes me back to when I was a child in Britain. It still has the same flavour, the same taste and the same consistency! I use it both hot and cold, depending on what dessert I've made. I even use it cold to accompany dices of fresh fruit now that the weather is getting hotter in Italy. It's marvellous hot with apple pie or any type of fruit crumble. Yummy!!

Birds custard is one of many UK staples at dessert time. This is an easy mix which delivers thick creamy custard with a great flavour. I got this for my US family for when we have our British dessert days. If you want to try a tasty British dessert option to go with apple pie, cake rolls or just to try on its own then get this. Love the custard slice idea in another review, will try that this weekend!

Birds custard powder original is as good today as when i first had it many years ago as a wee boy its simplistic to make and tastes good hot or cold it goes with a majority of dessert items turning some pretty bland selections in a tasty hearty easily made family treat dessert always well stocked in my pantry ready and rearing to go

Birds Custard is a great accompaniment to cakes, trifles and well.......pretty much everything. It's great eaten either cold or warm, although I prefer my custard to be nicely heated. This is a must-have staple in our household. Its very simple to make and provides great comfort. I really can't do without it!

5 starsLyndsay from United States on

I've not tried this plain, I've used it to make some of the British desserts from my cookbooks I've brought back with me to the USA. I can buy this here in America, but it's expensive and mostly sold in Walmart a store I hate to shop at, so I'm happy that I can add this to my order and have on hand for cookies and desserts.

Fantastic Birds custard. Extra special touch with apple pie. Easy to make .

For anyone from Scotland, custard goes with everything. And Birds custard powder dose custard perfectly to your taste. You can make it with milk of course. But condensed milk makes a rich creamy custard perfect for trifles. Or in making custard cream buiscuts. For anyone who has began family members, you can make a boring vegan brownie into something memorable.

5 starsKairen from Germany on

When my husband first came to Britain and was told we were having sponge pudding and custard for supper, he really didn't know what to expect. My mother described it and his response was, You mean vanilla pudding!. How wrong he was he now also knows nothing and I do mean NOTHING! can compare with the smooth, luscious, almost indescribable but ever so yummy taste of Bird's custard!

5 starsJulie from Bulgaria (Republic) on

Oh I just love that I can buy this product in its powdered form! Meaning it will provide me with freshly made custard for a long time to come! It stores and keeps very well and I can make it as thick or runny as I want. I can use low fat milk and keep the calories down, and it still tastes fantastically smooth and just as good as full fat custard. For special occasions when it calls for a bit of indulgence, I add some pouring cream to the final mix, hmmmm just heavenly.

5 starsColette from Spain on

You cannot beat Birds Custard powder for quality and taste. It is easy to prepare for many different purposes, including traditional bananas and custard, Christmas trifle and other desserts. I also use it in fairy cake recipes to add a little extra flavour and colour. As it also keeps for quite a long time in the store cupboard, it is always a good standby for a quick dessert for any occasion.

5 starsAndrew from United States on

Custard is a staple in many British homes and its pretty impossible to come by here in America. Birds is my favourite brand and when you mix it well this powder turns into a great custard that tastes amazing over cakes and puddings or on its own nice and hot. A great quick dessert or side to a dessert.

5 starsTracey from Israel on

This is another British staple that you just have to keep in your cupboard at all times. Great served hot on pies and puddings, but equally good served cold (in trifles and other desserts). I always preferred Birds to homemade custard and it is still as tasty and as easy to make as ever.

5 starsClive from Italy on

Birds Custard Powder is, without any doubt, the best way to make custard. For the uninitiated, it might be a little lumpy if you plonk in too much milk when you're mixing it up so the trick is to add a little at a time until it's blended properly. Birds improved the mix some years back and it's a lot easier to get smooth now than it was when I was a kid. If you're looking for something a little special, blend in some single cream. More calories but...

I cannot believe I found such a fantastic product!

I have lactose intolerance so for me having custard is usually a problem even though I love it.

This powder does not contain milk so I can use my low-lactose milk to prepare it and enjoy my hot, smooth and delicious home-made custard!

Another bonus is that it does not contain eggs so it is great for people who are allergic to eggs.

So, I will surely keep purchasing it!

5 starsPaul from United States on

OK so of course, I know how to make homemade custard from scratch! However, sometimes you just feel like being lazy and using Birds Custard Powder! Honestly, it tastes great too! Perfect for smothering cakes and puddings or for a quick snack. Always takes me back to childhood. Definitely a good price too.

5 starsEileen from Canada on

So happy to see you stock this product, it is a lovely tasting custard and brings back so many happy childhood memories. We were fortunate to have a huge garden where we grew our own apples among other things and my mum would serve this custard on her apple pies.

I have tried to make home made custard and always end up with scrambled egg, this is just as nice as home made and not at all stressful to make.

5 starsMartyn from Finland on

This custard powder makes making custard so much easier. It is also just as good as if you made it from scratch, without all the stress and risk of curdling the milk. This custard is smooth and creamy and is full of flavour. So if you want to make your life easier buy this product.

5 starsSue from Sweden on

Birds Custard powder makes the best custard, and you can choose whether to make it of pouring consistency or a little thicker to set on a trifle, and also how sweet you want it. It works well with whole or semi-skimmed milk, so you can vary it to suit your personal needs.

4 starsLlona from Finland on

This product makes custard very easy and quick to make. I liked the flavour, it is quite mild and goes well with pies and other desserts. I prefer to eat it refrigerated but warm works too.

The package has good instructions both for making on the stove and in the microwave oven. I've used the microwave for this, just remember to heat the milk first before adding the powder so it thickens properly (I forgot it the first time).

5 starsAnne from Italy on

Birds Custard Powder. Don't care what the French say. It's unimportant that the Italians have some of the best desserts. But making up a jug of Birds custard to go with my apple pie, or my cherry (and our own cherries) crumble, or even on its own, I l love it.

5 starsIan from Germany on

Birds do delightful Custard powder and BCS seem to stock all the different varieties of it.

It is extremely easy to prepare and its taste compliments any type of desert imaginable.

It can be enjoyed warm or even cold depending on how you fancy taking it.

I love it on a sponge cake!

5 starsAlda from Italy on

We have so many different type of puddings in Italy, but no one can beat Birds custard, because its simply the best. Its so easy and quick to make , that it only takes a few minutes to be ready and served. Thanks to BCS I always have some in my cupboard.

5 starsMariantonia from Italy on

This is certainly one of my staples. I could never be without Birds Custard Powder, the original. I am quite an old bird, and although we were taught in school to make our own custard with egg yolks, milk etc. there is no way that I have the time or desire to do so now. Thankfully, Birds Custard makes all that work quite unnecessary. Thick, smooth and full of flavour, for trifles or for topping any dessert, there is simply no comparison to Birds Custard Powder. Recently, I used it extra thick to fill two sheets of baked puff pastry, which I then topped with white pouring fondant... instant custard slices that do not exist here in Italy. Wonderful stuff.

5 starsKaren from Germany on

These days, everything has to be quick if not instant. I'm old-fashioned. :-) I love real custard, made by mixing the powder with sugar and milk and then heating it. Nothing comes close. And it only takes a few minutes, anyway! German Vanillesosse may be yummy, but it simply does not compare to a good dollop of real Birds custard. My German friends are also enthusiastic.

5 starsElizabeth from Norway on

You can't beat birds custard when it comes to fabulous winter comfort food. So quick and easy to make, perfect with cake and pies, or just on its own. My little boys like it if I add some chocolate or strawberry milkshake powder to it to add a different spin. Easy puds all round.

5 starsSandra from UK - England on

Birds Custard is the most famous custard brand in Britain. It is always in a distinctive blue red and yellow packaging.

To make this up you add a small amount of milk to some powder and mix it up then add to the rest of milk which is in a pan starting to boil. You can but instant versions which just need boiling water to them but this one made from scratch is better. Ideal with many pudding like apple pie, jam sponge etc.

5 starsEmily from UK - England on

I'm one of the worst cooks in the world so this really is my saving grace. It is easy to prepare and I use it mainly when creating a trifle. I love that it is so quick to use and it never fails to deliver that glorious yellow custard colour.

4 starsJessica from France on

This is a good way to keep some proper British custard always handy ready for when you need it. There are some equivalents here in France but they are never quite the same as British custard. And because it's in powder form it'll keep for ages in the back of the cupboard.

5 starsLiam from Netherlands on

In the Netherlands where we live, they try to make custard without ever succeeding in matching the "British" flavour of it. It is often bland and unappealing. I was very pleased to find Birds custard powder on the British Corner Shop website as it enables me to create desserts and pastries I could find in the UK.

5 starsBruna from Italy on

You can't say 'pudding' without thinking of Bird's custard. For the best, smoothest and creamiest custard, just a few tablespoons of Bird's custard powder, milk and sugar and a few minutes on the stove and it's ready. Serve hot as a pouring custard or leave to cool and use as a layer of your trifle. The unique, vanilla flavour makes it perfect for everything. I use it as a one inch thick filling between two sheets of baked puff pastry, and when cool I cut into slices and ice the top. Instant custard slices, delicious too.
