Hovis really does produce the most amazing quality flour and this Granary one is no exception. Once made into bread, it has a wonderful malty flavour with its distinctive rustic malt flakes. I tend to use it to make bread rolls as it goes so well with homemade burgers or even just filled with a crunchy salad. Packaging-wise, it comes in a reasonably thick paper packet but the wonderful people at British Corner Shop tend to pack it in an additional plastic bag to prevent damage in transit. Highly recommended.

For me, a highlight of visiting England is Granary Bread. We have nothing like it in the US. I have been told that is because this flour originated partly as a result of the many wonderful regional breweries in the UK. I don't know about that, but I do know that malted wheat flour is not available here. Googling granary bread here turns up many recipes attempting to recreate the taste. I haven't tried them, for fear of countless loaves of almost inedible bread. I decided to buy the real thing, instead. Now, I just have to adapt a recipe for my Zojirushi bread machine. Perhaps it won't be cheap experimenting if there are failures. But once I succeed, I will have a true taste of England!

This is the main reason I use the British Corner Shop, so I can have decent bread! Nowhere in the US can you buy flour like Hovis Granary flour. I cannot even buy it cheaper from the famous place starting with A. SO I buy it in bulk, ordering at least a dozen bags from the BCS. The price is great, the speed at which an order arrives is exceptional, it really can't be beat. Only drawback is that the use by date is very short on arrival, but with the correct storage, it should be ok a little past its date. I use the recipe on the back of the bag and get 2 nice sized loaves. Now I'm happy and I can have that lovely ploughman's lunch or cheese on toast that I miss so much. Thank you BCS!

Was happy to be able to buy Hovis Flour online. I do a lot of specialty baking and European flour is not the same as US flour, which is more processed and uses different wheat. Product arrived as promised when ordered but had a 6 week expiration date. Much too short a shelf life. Very disappointed. Also, this is not a full size bag.

Why buy shop bought bread when homemade can taste this good. I just followed the recipe on the back of the packet - and there were three ways to actually bring the ingredients together. I used a kitchen mixer with the kneading attachment on. Hardly any effort is needed to make a delicious loaf, and who can resist the smell of a baking wafting through the house! And to think no extra additives have gone into it.

Proper granary bread is one of the luxuries we have missed most after nearly 14 years in France, and being able to get Hovis Granary flour direct from BCS is something we really appreciate. We can then use the breadmaker for a wonderful granary loaf, which makes a welcome change from baguette!

I love this flour. I use it every time I make bread in my bread machine, adding it to a largely white flour mix to give it a bit of extra colour, flavour and interest. Granary bread is really hard to find in the USA, and I don't think I've ever seen granary flour for sale, so this is a must for me.
