Oh my, I love this pickle! One of the less common ones, but easily my favourite, and brilliant quality as you would expect from Patak's. It is quite hot and spicy, very thick, sweet and savoury. If this existed as a curry sauce I would happily eat a whole bowl of it! Perfect with poppadums, although I usually just serve it on the side with my curry.

Aubergines are one of my absolute favorite vegetables. I love aubergine in almost any form. I must say that Pataks really did a wonderful job bringing out the sweet pickled aubergine on the shelves. It is tangy as well as slightly sweet, and it makes a great addition to any Indian vegetable curry. Or it can simply be eaten with some hot naan bread. Oh so tasty!

The ingredients have changed. For example, there is more aubergine in the jar. Now described as Pataks Brinjal Aubergine Pickle, whereas it used to be as shown in the photo i.e. without the word "Aubergine".The taste is not the same, probably as a result of changing the ingredients. I could not say it is better or worse, as that would be just my opinion.

It's one of the better known pickles, and in fact I'd never heard of it until a friend's mother recommended it a few years ago.
Whenever I struggle to describe its taste and texture, I can't get past the idea that it's a bit like gloopy,un-set toffee.
Love it with a mild,fragrant chicken curry I make with cardamoms, cinnamon, cloves etc.

I bought this to try out with an Indian vegetable curry and chapattis. It was so delicious that it has now become my favourite pickle and can equally well accompany vegetable gratins, moussaka or even just cheese and biscuits. It has a really distinctive flavour but without being too strong.

Oh am I so glad that I found this! It is a great accompaniment to any Indian dish. It has a tangy authentic flavour and is a tasty addition to the usual pickles selection for the poppadoms starter. Pataks make a very good range and this is one of their best.Try it!
