Batchelor's Bigga Dried Peas are a great food item to always have in your store cupboard. I cannot buy these in Poland so very happy that I can purchase them online from The British Shop. Easy to prepare by following the simple instructions on the back of the packet. I use these dried peas to make a pea and ham soup it is delicious and a real family favorite. I find that one packet will make two family-sized pans of soup. Excellent value.
These are quite good. I have bought them several times and I find that they are quite easy to prepare they are plain if you don't add any seasoning, but with some salt and pepper and a few other spices, as you like, you can make a very easy pea soup that is very filling and healthy besides. Very satisfying, especially on a cold, wintry day my only problem is that they turn out more like a soup, not like the separated peas that you see on the front of the box, but maybe I am just overcooking them.
I searched every where for marrow fat peas, and there's no supplier in the USA. I had a large 2 12 bag mailed to me once and cost a fortune, I'm so glad British corner shop has them and for way less. If you never had them and you like peas I'm sure you will love these all my american friends do. I also left a review for the batchelors mushy peas in a can.
Oh my word, I absolutely love these peas! They are far tastier than tinned or frozen, and taste like chip shop peas. Personally, I only add a pinch of salt as I find adding sugar distracts from the taste. One of these boxes provides four servings, I weigh them so that I get the right amount of peas per soaking tablet. They keep for ages, being dried and I like them with a roast on a Sunday, like my Grandparents used to do. They are full of fibre too!
I always buy these small boxes of dried peas - they are just enough for 1 meal. They do come with 2 sets of steeping tablets but I find you only need the one pack, left in boiling water overnight and the peas are perfect. I mix them with sugar (Northern way) and they are just as I remember them from home.
The only problem I have with the peas is that my family make me cook 2 boxes at a time as they like leftovers
