Love this treacle, have tried other brands but this one is the best. Added to Christmas cake mixture to give extra flavour and colour. Of course a teaspoonfull ends up on my tongue, I love liquorice so..... Friends who love my Christmas cake but don't like liquorice have never noticed lol.

Lyles black treacle is not to everyone's taste but certainly to mine!! just love the stuff usually I add when cooking as it not only adds a dark colour to the cake I'm usually baking but gives it a lift in the taste department and the smell when baking is in my opinion sublime not to mention the number of times I stick a spoon into the tin so I can lick it off back to my childhood days

This is a really traditional thing to keep in a British kitchen if you baked and has been around forever and a day. I always use it in an Xmas cake as it really adds a darkness and depth of flavor and it is great to use in gingerbread. It is like a dark molasses but a darker, bitterer taste in a very good way. You do not use much but boy if it is not in there you know it is missing.

Lyles Black Treacle is a product I became familiar with in my grandmother's kitchen as a young child. Especially in the period before Christmas. She produced many delicious baked goods with the addition of this special treacle. It is still every bit as useful an item in modern times for anyone interested in baking.

My late grandmother made the best ginger bread using this product, it was terrific. I decided to buy a tin and try to replicate her recipe. At the same time my house was on the market and the estate agent came in with a good offer, she informed me that the buyers loved the smell in my kitchen!. Whilst I can't guarantee you will sell your house at least you will end up with a lovely ginger bread cake.

I was finding it difficult to follow some of my favourite recipes like treacle scones or gingerbread without this essential ingredient, so I was delighted to find it available through the BCS webpage. It is perfect for these and other recipes and brings fond memories of childhood favourite treats!

This is another typical British favourite for baking, that gives your biscuits and cakes a flavour that nothing else can give. Very hard to describe this to someone who has had the misfortune not to have tasted it before.
It has a rich flavour, better than molasses, but something you can't create yourself, as you can with most other things.
A definite must in your larder if you love baking and cooking, especially around the Christmas holidays. There is no substitute for this, so don't even try!

A magical ingredient for baking a deep rich taste. Adds taste to the Christmas cake, is lovely in Traditional Oatmeal Parkin (Delias Cakes), Ginger and Treacle Spiced Tray bake (Mary Berry), Rich Moist All Purpose Fruit Cake (Dan Lepard), Dark Sticky Gingerbread (Rachel Allen), Malt Load (Paul Hollywood Bread), Soda Bread (Lorraine Pascale). They are all so tasty and would not be the same without the black treacle it is a unique taste.

I agree with Bruna. Lyles Black Treacle is one of those secret ingredients that only true Brits will know about (unless you are lucky enough to be married to a Brit, that is). Not only is it worth buying for the beauty of the tin itself, but the sheer versatility of the product makes it a must-have at all times. I add it as a special ingredient to homemade brown bread. Try it and see.

Lyle's Black Treacle is something that you just can't do without in the kitchen cupboard. It's dark, almost liquorice tasting smooth syrup is a must in tens of great British baking recipes. One tablespoonful of treacle adds richness and moisture to Christmas cakes or puds, toffee traditional Parkin, syrup cakes... the list is endless. One small jar goes a long way and has a very long shelf life. I'm never without it.
