On its own, I found the syrup cake a little too sweet but warmed and with custard it is sublime. Rich syrup, moist cake, yummy! I took one over to my daughter's for dessert and gave them the leftovers. When I returned a few minutes later for something I forgot she and her husband were very carefully dividing up the remaining cake and custard so they would have equal seconds.
McVities Golden syrup cake is very versatile. It can be cut and served cold as a wonderful accompaniment to beverages, but it may be sliced and warmed then served with custard or even a spicy brandy sauce. It has a lovely gooey texture and you can really taste the golden syrup that its made of. Excellent.
I have been a fan of McVities Gingerbread for a long time, and more recently tried this Golden Syrup Cake. Although personally I find it a bit sweet, it has a very nice flavour and is sure to be a hit with both kids and adults. It goes well with a cup of tea of tea or coffee.
My youngest daughter badgers me to bake syrup tart but McVities have been baking the best syrup cake I've ever eaten for years. And it's just enough to cut off one or two slices to snack on with a mug of tea in the afternoon!
My Dutch husband has grown to like to taste and I've never known him to refuse.
I love home baking but can't see the point of trying to either emulate McVities or best them with their syrup cake.
This cake is simply wonderful, a small piece is enough for most people though I will admit to having 'seconds'. It is very moist and though delicious on its own with vanilla ice cream it is heavenly.
I may be biased but in my opinion we 'Brits' do know a thing or two on how to produce good cake, order it and I'm sure you will agree. Pleased to know that you carry this product as it also freezes nicely.

Mc'Vities Golden Syrup Cake is a real treat, served warm with custard or sliced cold, it's simply delicious. It may seem small, but it's so rich that two slices is more than enough for anyone, and I usually cut mine into eight. You can't beat the flavour of golden syrup, and even if not home made, to me this is British baking at its best.
Treacle tart and golden syrup cake are yet more memories of my long-distant childhood. However, not being a great cake baker and having even less time now that I am retired than I did when I was working full-time AND bringing up a family, I turn to McVities Golden Syrup cake to satisfy my sweet tooth and bring back those memories. Indulge and bulge ... at 69, who cares?
