Product information

Rhubarb is a sour tasting vegetable that's often considered a fruit, as it is sweetened with sugar and added with other fruit to desserts.

Thanks to Princes, you no longer have to wait for the seasonal veg to ripen; this tin of Rhubarb is perfect if you're looking to make a Rhubarb-based dessert or dish, any time of year.

The sweet syrup also helps to reduce the bitter taste, making it an idea option for baking and cooking.

Lets be honest from the start there is nothing better than fresh rhubarb!! Sadly not always available then Princes Rhubarb in syrup is a good back up!! As usual Princes give you a quality product that I find very good to use in home baking!! A light syrup covers the firm chunky pieces of delicious fruit!!! ideal to make our favourite dessert rhubarb crumble with lashings of custard

I love rhubarb and it has to be my absolute favorite pie filling of all time. As I child it was one of the things I used to love growing in my own patch of the garden that I was given to tend and so I have some great memories of picking fresh rhubarb from the garden for my mum to bake a pie. Unfortunately, the climate is not suitable for growing it here (believe me I've tried). So, Princes tinned rhubarb is definitely the next best thing when you can't grow your own.

Princes Rhubarb in Syrup is a perfect addition to the larder in the Autumn and Winter. I do love rhubarb and get plenty of fresh rhubarb in the Spring and Summer months but until I discovered Princes Rhubarb I went without the rest of the year. It's flavour and texture is excellent - the base of some great desserts.

For some reason rhubarb does not seem popular here in Toronto, consequently it is really expensive. Some people do grow their own but as I live in a condominium with only a balcony I cannot do this.

I purchased two tins of Princes rhubarb in my last order - they were wonderful, I made one tin into a rhubarb crumble and the other into tartlets. I shall of course be ordering more, it was wonderful. Thank you BCS.

I also live in North Italy and like other reviews state, it is impossible to find Rhubarb here! I also use Princes Rhubarb when making crumbles. They are also perfect in apple and rhubarb pies. And as the fruit is already cooked and prepared there is no need to stand over a stove and boil it in lots of sugar (like my Nan always did!).

I live in the north of Italy and I can't find rhubarb. I bought 2 tins of Hartleys rhubarb in syrup to make a rhubarb crumble for my Italian friends after telling them how much I miss it. I just made the crumble, but only had to use one tin as they are fairly large. So glad I can keep one spare as it smells delicious!

We can get fresh rhubarb here in Holland (which the natives serve savoury with beef and potatoes!) but not the canned kind, so this came in very handy.

Just top it with a sweet crumble topping to make a lovely dessert or use it to make a rhubarb pie.

You can also serve it with whipped cream or custard if you want.

The next best thing to fresh rhubarb, which is unfortunately unavailable where I live in Italy. I always keep a few tins of this in the pantry and when I fancy a good old UK pud, within minutes I can put together a pie or a crumble. Sometimes the contents are slightly 'mashed' but it doesn't really matter. Excellent tasting rhubarb in delicious syrup. Worth the money.

5 starsBruna from Italy on

Be warned... most mediterranean countries do not sell rhubarb so if, like me, you pine for good old fashioned rhubarb crumble, don't forget to order a good stock of Hartley's tinned Rhubarb in Syrup. Already sweet enough to use as is, just through your crumble mix on top and serve with Bird's custard when cooked. If you haven't had it for a long time, it will take you down the 'school dinner' memory lane at least. This 540g tin is enough for a crumble that will serve 6, but it can also be heated up in the syrup and simply served with custard or pouring cream. Delicious!
