Cream of tartar seems to be tricky to find in many countries, not sure why as it's a handy thing to have in your store cupboard. Use it in scones to make light, fluffy and airy scones. Use it to stabilize egg whites in meringues pavlovas etc. Use it to stabilize many cake frostings. The pack contains 6 x 5g sachets which are 1 tsp per sachet so really handy when baking as you can just add the relevant number of sachets rather than measuring out. I have tried to sub a mix of baking powder and bicarbonate of soda if I've been unable to get cream of tartar wherever we happen to be, but it doesn't always work unless you have the quantities spot on. I've just stocked back up on this, ordering 3 packs, and saving a small amount using the multi buy offer.

A must have product in any bakers kitchen. My grandmother used to make the most beautiful scones, they were big and fluffy and I loved watching her as she weighed and measured the ingredients. The smell of them baking literally made your mouth water. We would eat them with cream and jam (home made of course) or butter.

I do use cream of tarter but I have never been able to make scones.

I have tried to find Cream of Tartar in France.

What a problem! It is very expensive, and the minimum order quantity is 100 grams,

It was interesting to find that it is a byproduct of wine making!

So I am very excited to find it here, at a good price and in sachets of 5 grams.

Cream of Tartar has many uses, I myself use mainly for stabilising egg whites, for baked Alaska, pavlova and meringue.

A lot of people don't know what Cream of Tartar is used for but it really is a godsend if you enjoy home baking. It can be used for many things. To begin with, cream of tartar is a stabilizer and is often part of the baking powder mixes. It is usually added to beaten egg whites when making meringue to increase their volume and make them 'hold' better. It is added to icings and home made sweets because it gives them a creamier texture and avoids crystallisation when boiling sugars. It is a good all rounder and will improve your home made treats immensely.
